The 10 most populated communes

Respective capitals of Cismonte and Pumonte, Bastia and Ajaccio have unequal populations. Ajaccio has approximately 1 third more inhabitants than Bastia and, more importantly, four times the surface area of Bastia. Bastia thus has a population density 2.5 times higher.

Ajaccio's territory is also less mountainous than Bastia's, which rapidly rises in relief, up to almost 1000 meters in altitude.
